Scroll Wheel Tips - Pro Tools Quick Tips

Your mouse scroll wheel can be very useful in Pro Tools and help to speed up your workflow.

Of course you can scroll up and down, but did you know you could scroll horizontally, zoom horizontally, zoom audio and MIDI vertically, adjust clip gain and much more by using just the scroll wheel and a couple keys on your keyboard?

Well if you would like to know these cool tips, keep reading and watch the following video to see these tips in action!

Behringer BCF2000 Control Surface and Pro Tools

The Behringer BCF2000 is a low-cost control surface that can be used with many DAW's like, Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools, and more.

Setting up the BFC2000 to work with Pro Tools is only a couple easy steps.

Connect the unit to your Computer via a USB cable. The unit also has MIDI ports, but USB is how most people will be using the unit. And MIDI is actually much faster over USB vs. standard MIDI ports/cables.

You need to hold down the 5th button from the left on the top row (VAL 2 is written above) while powering on the unit. As soon as you see bhui you can release the button.

Then all that is left is setting up Pro Tools to "see" the surface.

In Pro Tools, go to SETUP>Peripherals>MIDI Controllers

Using the drop downs, simply choose: TYPE>HUI
For Receive From and Send To choose the BCF2000. For Channel Number, 8 - which should be there by default. And that's it!

You can see this in action by watching the included videos in this post.

If your computer is not recognizing the BCF2000 and automatically loading a driver for you, simply go to the Behringer website and download and install the proper driver for your system.

With the BCF2000 you can control the faders and pan knobs in Pro Tools with ease. And the BCF2000 has motorized faders! That's right, real motorized faders. You can do so much more with the BCF2000, like control the transport (play/stop/FF/RW), arm tracks, adjust send levels, switch between the Edit and Mix windows, cut and paste audio, and more.

Watch the two included videos to see how to setup the BCF2000 and see the features for yourself.

Customize your Pro Tools 11 Icon - Windows

When you have Pro Tools 10.3.6+ and Pro Tools 11 co-installed, you will notice that the icons are exactly the same. So why not change one of them to give us a quick visual cue as to which version we are clicking on!

Watch the video to see exactly how we do this on Windows 8.

Use any icon that is already on your system or make your own. To make your own you can use a paid program like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements or a free program like GIMP.

To use an image as an Icon on Windows, the file needs to be converted to an .ico file. There are several free and paid programs available on Cnet.com that will convert an image file to an icon file. Or just search online and you will find several free online options to upload and convert an image to an icon.

For the Windows 8 Start screen tile, you need a program like OblyTile, there are free and paid options for this too, in the Windows Store.

If you want, you can download the Icon used in this video below.
