Customize your Pro Tools 11 Icon - Windows

When you have Pro Tools 10.3.6+ and Pro Tools 11 co-installed, you will notice that the icons are exactly the same. So why not change one of them to give us a quick visual cue as to which version we are clicking on!

Watch the video to see exactly how we do this on Windows 8.

Use any icon that is already on your system or make your own. To make your own you can use a paid program like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements or a free program like GIMP.

To use an image as an Icon on Windows, the file needs to be converted to an .ico file. There are several free and paid programs available on Cnet.com that will convert an image file to an icon file. Or just search online and you will find several free online options to upload and convert an image to an icon.

For the Windows 8 Start screen tile, you need a program like OblyTile, there are free and paid options for this too, in the Windows Store.

If you want, you can download the Icon used in this video below.

To use the icon from the video, simply download it and unzip the folder. Place the images in a folder where you will not accidentally delete them, I placed them in my Pro Tools 11 folder.

Then simply follow the directions in the video -

Right Click the PT11 icon.

Properties, make sure you are on the Shortcut tab.

Change Icon.

Browse to the icon file.

Choose it and click OK and Apply.

That's it. If the pinned shortcut in your taskbar does not update, simply unpin it, then right click on the new PT11 Icon on your desktop and choose Pin To Taskbar.

You can also create a custom Tile for the Windows 8 Start screen, just follow the directions in the video or the instructions for the program you use to create tiles.

These image/icon files are NOT approved by Avid. There is NO warranty or guarantee associated with the download or use of these files. Meaning, if you mess up your computer, you are on your own.

NEVER make any changes to your OS if you are unsure of what you are doing!
ALWAYS have a backup of your working system!

These image/icon files are provided AS IS for use as icons only.
